LBH963

Bought for $500 as a wreck

Rebuilt specifically for the 1979 Repco Reliability Trial which was a grueling 19,000k race around Australia in 14 days by 163 two wheel drive race/rally cars (unfortunately we only reached Darwin). The modifications included:

  • 1293cc Engine producing about 110hp
  • Dropforged pistons
  • High lift 649 Cam (was)
  • Helical cut gears
  • Clutched limit slip differential
  • 45mm Webber Carby (was)
  • Adjustable rubber cone front end with adjustable camber & caster
  • Coil supported shockers over long trailing wishbones from cross beam on rear
  • 13" alloy wheels
  • Goodyear Ultragrip tyres
  • 4 wheel disc brakes
  • 200 litres fuel capacity (was)
  • 6 pint, aluminium alloy roll cage
  • Aluminium alloy perimiter cage
  • Steel vented sump guard
  • Electric fan as well as front cooler on Radiator
  • 900w lights (was)
  • Circuit breakers in place of all fuses

Basically, we converted the Moke into a huge petrol tank with 2 seats on it, 4 wheels under it, and a high powered engine in front of it, to sprint around Australia.

In fact it went like the proverbial "Shit off a shovel" (went like a rocket).

The Moke's power to weight ratio was excellent and with almost 300mm ground clearance we hit very few obstacles.
