Bought the Moke bout 1989 thought it was really expensive. Tony Adamson in
Wodonga did most of the suspension reconstruction and a heap of other
stuff. It had a grotty old 1098 with no oil pressure and a noise in the
diff. Missing two teeth off the crown wheel. Tony also put the engine and
gearbox back together after the 1310 exercise.
The Moke had done a lot of miles before I bought it. Donuts were seriously
compressed. Had hooks all over it like it had carried crap all over the
place.
Moke is still in original paint. has a new (4 yrs old) roof - universal
upholstery in Wodonga and it works quite well. Most of everything is
standard cept for the horrible dash - will fix one day. engine 1310
balanced standard valves and sing 1 1/2 SU. Has an 1100s flywheel - didnt
realise at the time but the thing will not rev but it hangs on the hills
really well. Brakes and wheel are standard.
Canberra to Albury 4 hours and 27 litres (bout 340km). Uses bout the same
fuel as Sharons BA Falcon. But no one pulls up alongside the Falcon and
waves.
Sharon says I should not go crook bout people geeking at us when we drive
a Moke.
Spose everyone else has the petrol station phenonum (??) geez mate I had
one of them once had a Cooper S engine and went faster than anything else.
